Description

In this workshop, you will be shown how to create textured surface design and pattern by felting onto material, such as lace and silk. You will have the chance to be experimental, creating a series of samplers layering beautiful soft merino wool tops with all sorts of exciting colourful fibres including; silk sari fibres, banana fibres, silk hankies, twisted merino wool tops, pieces of fabric, novelty yarns and hand-dyed silks. You will also be shown how to create relief effects. Nuno felting can produce stunning results.
Once you are happy with your design, we will cover the piece with a cloth, wet it with soapy water and rub the material until it is felted and the fibres have adhered together. Using a bamboo mat we will then ‘full’ the felt until it has shrunk a bit and gives us the desired effect.
Once finished, you will have pieces of artwork to take home and perhaps use as wall hangings, to frame or to attach onto a pre-stretched canvas. The choice could be to make your nuno felting into something else like a cushion, work into it using machine embroidery, hand stitching, attach beads or sequins, or other things. The possibilities are endless. People use nuno felting techniques to make hats, scarves and lampshades to name but a few.
Working with colour and the process of wet felting can be relaxing, calming and quite therapeutic. It is also a quick method of felting. You will be amazed at what you can create.
This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with more experience. All materials included.
